“That 1000 years was hell for both of us,” Celestia growled.
“But it’s finally over. We can move on now,” Luna said comfortingly, hugging her sister.
Both sisters perked up at the same time. “We’re back to normal!” Celestia exclaimed.
“Normal?” Discord’s disembodied voice rang out. “Dear, sweet Celestia! You two just shared each other’s lives. For that one brief moment, you were one and the same. Can anything ever be normal between you two again?”
“It’s a moment I think we’ll both always treasure,” Celestia conceded.
“But whatever your reasons for doing it in the first place, it’s over now,” Luna said.
“Over?” Discord said, appearing in front of them with a toothy grin. “Oh it’s never over, Luna. Any time you both wish, Moonlight Sunrise is there waiting to exis

Celestia looked down upon her sister. How could she possibly know how she felt? She was a hero. She had just as much a hoof in the fall of Discord and Sombra as her sister. Her gift of the night was no less necessary to the natural order as her sisters’ gift of the day.
Yet while her sister got all the glory, Celestia got nothing. Her subjects never came out to meet her during the night. She never even had the opportunity to enjoy the simple things her sister always took for granted.
Celestia never had the chance to shop at the boutiques. She never ate at the diners. She had never once been to the spas her sister would rave about.
The unending loneliness was something her sister could never understand and Celestia was sick of it. She was an alicorn. She would live for an eternity unless she was killed in battle. An eternity of this solitude? She would rather die!
The anger overtook Celestia a

Luna walked around the ruins of the Everfree palace with a sense of trepidation. “What’s wrong, Luna?” Celestia asked.
“Bad memories,” Luna said, keeping her eyes to the ground.
“That was a long time ago.”
“A lifetime ago. Still…”
The sisters came upon the throne room. The ceiling hang open like a rotting wound. Still, the sisters could see where the new brick interlaced with the old ceiling, closing the wound up.
“Twilight and her friends have made great strides in repairing this place in such a short time.” Celestia noted. “All wounds heal with time.”
“Not all wounds,” Luna said, walking up to a broken dais.
A stray memory flitted across Luna’s mind. “There can only be one princess in Equestria, and that princess will be me!” She flinched away from the dais, trying to shake the memory loose.
“After all this
Yes it's finished. First a warning to parents. When I first set out to write this, I had hoped to make it kid friendly. And in a rather "Secret of NIMH" "Last Unicorn" kinda way, I think I may have succeeded. In case you missed the references, there's mild swearing and violence. Nothing that would rate even above a PG more than likely, but I always encourage parents to keep track of what their kids watch and read on the net.
And now for a person note here. When I started this, I was hoping it would fit into cartoon canon. I took a bit of a break when I reached the Nightmare Moon section so I could watch the season 4 premiere of FiM and adjust the final confrontation between Luna and Celestia accordingly to keep it in canon with the show.
Unfortunately, the episode not only irreparably ruined what I had planned for the fight, it also ruined what I'd already done in the Discord section as well. Seeing the previews, I knew they would show a lot of the Nightmare Moon/Celestia battle...but I didn't expect them to show the whole entire thing. I certainly wasn't expecting them to show the Discord battle. So...yeah. The fic was destroyed by canon before it was even finished being written.
Still, I decided to finish what I started, somewhat freed by the fact that I no longer even needed to make the attempt at keeping inside canon. That ship had sailed. So I hope you enjoy my take on the history of Equestria. Maybe a bit of personal bias, but I actually prefer this over my previous "Sisters at War" fic.
Here's a link to the Google document. In my opinion, it's easier to read and retains more of the font choices of the original.
